Dr Peter Gradwell, Managing Director
Peter is recognised as one of the UK’s leading young internet and telecoms entrepreneurs, and was recently named by the Daily Telegraph as one of the Changing Faces of IT. Having established the company in his second year of University, in 1998, Peter has delivered a staggering year-on-year organic growth to grow the company. He remains actively involved in the day-to-day management of the business, including hands-on dealings with clients to drive product development, and a focus on marketing and PR to maintain company growth.
Peter is an active industry shaper, having sponsored the establishment of voip.org.uk, being a founder member of the Internet Telephony Service Providers Association, a Director of the UK ENUM Consortium and is a respected industry lobbyist having worked on domain name policy, VoIP regulation and 999 issues. Has previously a Non-Exec Director of Newnet plc and Chaired Nominet UK’s Policy Advisory Board for 2 years.
In Summer 2009, Peter completed a Phd in Computer Science at the University of Bath titled "Economic Algorithms for the Management of Resources in Computer Systems". He now devotes his spare time to teaching Kayaking and exploring the coast and rivers of the UK.
Barrie Millett, Commercial Director
Barrie joined Gradwell in 2005 from his role as Group Services Director for automotive computer systems specialists Kerridge Computer Company. In a departure from his early career as an electronics technician with the RAF, Barrie has developed a sharp commercial focus. With a commitment to excellent customer service and a keen eye for maintaining a healthy P&L, Barrie has overall responsibility for the customer support, purchasing and billing functions.
When not working, Barrie can be found tearing up the road on his classic Harley Davidson.
Stuart Herbert, Head of Engineering
Joining Gradwell in 2008 from his role as Senior Developer for Box UK, Stuart heads-up a team of specialist developers. His role focuses on the development and refinement of Gradwell products and services to ensure that small businesses get the most from their internet infrastructure. With over 14 years in the industry, Stuart has delivered successful technical consultancy projects for the likes of Eurostar, Vodafone and HP amongst many others, as well as being an active speaker and commentator on web development using PHP.
To unwind, Stuart practices and teaches Tai Chi.
Derek Swindell, Sales Manager
Derek joined Gradwell in 2005 as the company’s first salesperson to increase product holdings by existing customers, and to introduce the offering to a wider small business audience. His role now encompasses both direct and indirect sales. With over two decades in the computing industry, Derek has held sales directorships with the likes of Apricot Computers and ComputerWorld, helping businesses and consumers get the most from their PC purchases.
As an escape from the hi-tech world of work, Derek owns a traditional narrowboat and enjoys the change of pace it offers.
Bernie Harman, Sales Manager
Bernie joined Gradwell in 2009 to head an outbound telesales team. Their main responsibility is to market new businesses, primarily in the SME market place. With over 15 years sales management and 30 years sales experience, Bernie has worked for companies such as Thomson Directories, Lloyds Bank, Creditsafe and Communications Direct. Her focus has always been on sales management & training, target achievement, data management and lead generation, while always keeping the customer’s needs and specific requirements in mind.
When away from the office, Bernie loves to travel with her husband and spend time with her four grandchildren.
